This spectacular Staunton chess set is named for the horse rode by general Philip Henry Sheridan during the civil war. Rienzi is one of the most famous war horses in America and carried General Sheridan through over a dozen major battles surviving numerous wounds. The Rienzi Staunton is truly spectacular with its mane flowing back as if on a full charge. The knight is beautifully sculpted with realistic features that only the best carvers in the world can accurately carve and replicate from piece to piece. All of the pieces have an elegant profile that creates a coherent pattern from pawn to king. The lathe work is simply extraordinary.
