Heiward Mak writes and directs the film Fagara , which is produced by Ann Hui and adapted from a novel by Amy Cheung. Sammi Cheng stars alongside Megan Lai ( Caf . Waiting. Love. ) and Li Xiaofeng ( Youth ) as a trio of sisters who navigate resentment and reconciliation after their father's death. With so many prominent female names attached, the gentle family drama is pronouncedly a woman's film that explores the choices and emotions of the three protagonists. In an exciting casting move for Hong Kong cinema fans, Sammi also reunites on screen with Andy Lau and Richie Jen, who play her ex-boyfriend and potential new romantic interest, respectively. Travel agent Acacia (Sammi Cheng) suddenly receives news of her estranged father's (Kenny Bee) death, and has to deal with the after-death arrangements and his failing Sichuan hot pot restaurant. She had a complicated relationship with her father, who left her mother for another woman when she was a child. At the funeral, two half-sisters Acacia never knew of appear billiards player Branch (Megan Lai) from Taiwan and outgoing wild child Cherry (Li Xiaofeng) from mainland China. Bonding over their shared loss and misgivings, the three women team up to save their father's restaurant. In the process, they also gradually come to terms with their father and themselves.
