Missed opportunity and cruel fate meet in Eighteen Springs , director Ann Hui's rich melodrama set in 1930s Shanghai. Based on an Eileen Chang novel, the film tells the tale of a mismatched romance between factory worker Manjing (Jacklyn Wu) and wealthy merchant Shijun (Leon Lai).
