Based on Lee Dong Cheol's same-titled novel, the melodrama offers a realistic portrayal of everyday people's plight during Korea's era of modernization. Crowned Best Actress at the 1982 Daejong Awards, Kim Bo Yeon ( A Girl Named Jegal Maeng Sun ) stars as a struggling single mother who becomes embroiled in a complicated relationship with two men played by Kim Hui Ra ( Oyster Village ) and Ahn Sung Ki. Myung Sook (Kim Bo Yeon) single-handedly raised her young son Joon Il while living in the slums. After marrying Tae Seob (Kim Hui Ra), she becomes the family's sole breadwinner. One day, her ex-husband Joo Seok (Ahn Sung Ki), who became a taxi driver after his release from prison, suddenly shows up to find his son. Meanwhile, Tae Seob's dark secret comes to light when he meets the wife of the man whom he killed years ago. Myung Sook plans to sell her shop and compensate the widow. However, Tae Seob decides to turn himself in to the police and asks Myung Sook to go with Joo Seok.
