Based on a best-selling novel by Numata Mahokaru, Birds Without Names defies categorization as a dysfunctional romance and suspense about the worst of people. Directed by Shiraishi Kazuya ( Twisted Justice ), the Osaka-set drama stars Aoi Yu in a Japan Academy Prize-winning performance as a woman involved with three men, played by Abe Sadao, Takenouchi Yutaka and Matsuzaka Tori. Towako (Aoi Yu) lives with Jinji (Abe Sadao), who is 15 years older than her, but she still can't forget her abusive ex Kurosaki (Takenouchi Yutaka), who broke up with her eight years ago. Towako looks down on Jinji's unpolished appearances and manners, but she doesn't work and relies on his earnings. She meets a married man (Matsuzaka Tori) who reminds her of Kurosaki, and they start an affair. Then Towako learns from the police that Kurosaki has gone missing, and she begins to suspect that Jinji had something to do with his disappearance.
