Way before Ip Man , SPL and Bullets Over Summer , Wilson Yip directed the comedy Teaching Sucks!! in 1997. Written and produced by funnyman Vincent Kok, the low-key and enjoyable film stars Jan Lamb and Anthony Wong as unmotivated teachers who begin to change after a new teacher arrives at their school. When Lam (Jan Lamb) first fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a teacher, he was filled with ambition and passion for the job. However, over time, he grew apathetic from the daily routine of classes, meetings and correcting homework. He gets along best with fellow teacher Wong (Anthony Wong), a single father who wants to find a mother for his son. One day, substitute teacher Lee (Cathy Tsui) shows up. Her positivity and enthusiasm in the classroom awakens Lam's long-dormant teaching ideals. Both Lam and Wong also develop feelings for Lee.
