Released during the 2017 Chinese New Year holidays, Zone Pro Site director Chen Yu Hsun's The Village of No Return blends martial arts action and rural comedy into an offbeat comedy-drama set in early 20th century China. Both nonsensically silly and surprisingly dark, the film gathers Shu Qi ( The Assassin ), Joseph Chang ( Sky on Fire ), Wang Qianyuan ( Saving Mr. Wu ), Lin Mei Shiu ( Zone Pro Site ), Yo Yang ( Cold War II ) and Eric Tsang into a village whose residents have been wiped of their memories. Once upon time, there was a remote village named Desire that may be home to a treasure desired by Squire Shih (Eric Tsang). The denizens of Desire Village, however, are preoccupied with other matters, like accusing widow Autumn (Shu Qi) of killing her husband. Then one day, a mysterious Taoist priest (Wang Qianyuan) shows up with a magical contraption that can erase people's memories. From that day on, the villagers begin new lives with new identities, blissfully unaware of the conflicts and secrets of their pasts. Behind their false security and happiness lies a dangerous plot...
