Departures director Takita Yojiro returns with The Last Recipe , his first film in five years. Based on the novel Kirin no Shita wo Motsu Otoko by Iron Chef director Tanaka Keiichi, the cooking-themed film stars Arashi's Ninomiya Kazunari as sullen modern-day cook Mitsuru Sasaki, who has a Qilin's tongue that allows him to reproduce any taste. His unique gift is also his curse, however, as his unyielding perfectionism created rifts with those around him and led to his restaurant's failure. Because of his debt, he begins to prepare meals for the dying who pay generously to eat a certain dish for the last time. When Sasaki is hired to find and reproduce a long-lost imperial banquet menu, his life will become linked to that of another man with the Qilin's tongue, imperial chef Yamagata Naotaro in 1930s Manchuria. Nishijima Hidetoshi plays Yamagata, who devotes his life to creating the best imperial menu in a storyline that unfolds parallel to that of Sasaki. The Last Recipe also co-stars Ayano Go as Sasaki's only friend who understands him, Miyazaki Aoi as Yamagata's wife, as well as Takenouchi Yutaka, Kansai Johnny's Jr. member Nishihata Daigo and Oida Yoshi.
