Legendary Hong Kong action director Yuen Woo Ping remakes his own 1982 film The Miracle Fighters into the costume fantasy The Thousand Faces of Dunjia . Written and produced by Tsui Hark, the film draws on the concept of Qimen Dunjia, an ancient Chinese art of divination based on astronomy and metaphysics. In popular imagination and screen depictions, Qimen Dunjia often integrates martial arts, sorcery and illusions. Set during the Northern Song Dynasty, The Thousand Faces of Dunjia revolves around a secret organization of Qimen Dunjia practitioners who are sworn to protect humanity. Aarif Rahman ( Kung Fu Yoga ), Ni Ni ( Wu Kong ), Zhou Dongyu ( Soul Mate ), funnyman Da Peng ( I Am Not Madame Bovary ) and Taiwan rocker Wu Bai ( Time and Tide ) star in the rollicking fantasy filled with magical action, oddball humor and visual effects. Young foolhardy constable Dao Yichang (Aarif Rahman) has just reported for duty at the Kaifeng station, and he soon gets sent on a wild-goose chase by his superiors. During his fake assignment, he encounters a curious fish demon and the even more curious demon hunter Dragonfly (Ni Ni), who is part of a Qimen sect called Wuyin. The fish demon, however, is merely a harbinger of the peril to come. As the dark force of otherworldly demons awaken within the earth, Wuyin's Big Brother (Wu Bai) heads out in search of a mystical weapon that must not fall into the wrong hands. Meanwhile, deputy Zhuge (Da Peng) brings back Circle (Zhou Dongyu), a mysterious girl with phenomenal powers who bears the birthmark of Wuyin's destined leader.
