The 2015 tvN crime mystery Gap Dong is based on the infamous unsolved Hwaseong serial murders which also inspired Bong Joon Ho's 2003 film Memories of Murder . Yoon Sang Hyun ( I Hear Your Voice ) leads the dark and thrilling series as a detective chasing after an elusive serial killer, along with a top-notch cast that includes Kim Min Jung ( The Thorn Birds ), Lee Joon ( Heard It Through the Grapevine ), Sung Dong Il ( It's Okay, That's Love ) and Kim Ji Won ( The Heirs ). In the mid-90s, a quiet city is terrorized by a series of brutal murders. The police nickname the killer Gap Dong. Officer Yang Chul Gon (Sung Dong Il) strongly suspects Ha Il Shik of being the perpetrator, and in the end, Ha commits suicide to assert his innocence. Two decades later, Ha Il Shik's son Moo Yeom (Yoon Sang Hyun) has grown up to become a detective. With the statute of limitations having already passed, Moo Yeom realizes he may never be able to clear his father's name, but then a series of incidents brings new clues that link back to the serial murder case. Moo Yeom is determined to catch Gap Dong, but to do so he will have to work with not only Yang Chul Gon, who heads the investigation team, but also some unlikely and possibly dangerous people, including a mysterious psychiatrist (Kim Min Jung) with a suspicious interest in Gap Dong, a teenage artist (Kim Ji Won) whose webtoon foretells crimes and a psychopathic genius (Lee Joon) who idolizes Gap Dong.
