Following The Rope Curse , another traditional supernatural ritual provides inspiration for scares in Pan Zhi Yuan's 49 Days . Starring Lewis Liu and Lorene Ren, the horror film takes on the Taiwan custom of Guanluoyin, a spell in folk Taoism that allows a person's soul to travel to the underworld. After having a terrifying nightmare involving a woman in red, Li Jia Hao (Lewis Liu) finds that counting marks have inexplicably appeared on his arm. Starting from 49, one mark disappears each day, as if counting down to something. People around him also keep dying mysteriously, and he turns into a suspect.
