Based on Chow's own award-winning short film, Beyond the Dream is an unexpected and acute romantic drama that navigates the effects of mental health on relationships. Elementary school teacher Lok (Terrance Lau) has struggled with schizophrenia in the past, and hesitates to start relationships despite his desire for love. By chance, he meets Yan Yan (Cecilia Choi) and falls in love at first sight with her. Lok is unsure about whether he should reveal his mental health history, but he soon suffers a relapse and experiences delusions. Yan Yan, however, is also not what she seems to be.
