From 2005 to 2012, special effects whiz Yamazaki Takashi turned Saigan Ryohei's Sanchome no Yuhi manga series into three blockbuster Always: Sunset on Third Street films that were hailed for their warm nostalgic stories and technical wizardry. In 2017, he adapts Saigan's Kamakura Monagatari into the fantasy comedy-drama Destiny: The Tale of Kamakura . Set in the city of Kamakura, an area known for its numerous temples and shrines, the moving and magical story stars Sakai Masato ( Key of Life ) and Takahata Mitsuki ( Evergreen Love ) as a winsome couple whose love transcends life and death. Eccentric mystery writer Masakazu (Sakai Masato) just recently married the much younger Akiko (Takahata Mitsuki) and she is adapting to newlywed life in Kamakura. In this ancient city where mystical energy seeps into the moral realm, the naive Akiko soon learns that demons, spirits, deities and grim reapers may turn up on the next corner or even in your home. Most of these otherworldly beings are just minding their own business, but others are less well-meaning. When Akiko loses her soul under mysterious circumstances, Masakazu will have to journey into the afterworld to bring her back.
