Produced by Teddy Robin and directed by Ng Siu Kong, the 1982 film Once Upon a Rainbow uses a television studio as background to tell the story of two young women of different fates. Appropriately enough, the film starred television starlets of the time Wong Cho Si and Chong Jing Yee, both of whom have long left the industry, making this film a particularly rare treat. A TVB acting class graduate herself, Wong Cho Si is most remembered as Princess Hua Zheng in Legend of the Condor Heroes . Chong Jing Yee, meanwhile, is best known for her starring role in Soldier of Fortune . Coming from a broken family, Angel (Wong Cho Si) places all her hopes and dreams in best friend Fong (Chong Jing Yee). Fong is currently taking acting classes at the TV studio that Angel works at, and both of them develop a liking for the same guy. When Angel finds out about Fong's feelings, she backs out of the budding relationship, not wanting Fong to get hurt. Troubled by her own heart and conscience, Angel slowly loses her voice, giving up on herself. On the same day Fong graduates, she receives news that Angel has died by suicide.
