There's nothing wrong with the blueberry pie, just people make other choices. Hong Kong auteur Wong Kar Wai makes his long-awaited English-language debut in 2007 with My Blueberry Nights . Just as he did 13 years ago when he plucked Faye Wong for Chungking Express , Wong Kar Wai casts as his muse an acting newcomer, piano pop ingenue Norah Jones. Bright and brooding, My Blueberry Nights is a moody road movie with the director's signature meandering story, lovelorn characters, and beautiful photography, as well as striking art direction from William Cheung Suk Ping. Jude Law co-stars as Jones's yearning love interest, Rachel Weisz and David Strathairn portray an estranged, feuding couple, and Natalie Portman does some brassy scenery chewing as a professional gambler. More dialogue-driven than Wong's previous films, My Blueberry Nights also moves faster than the usual WKW offering, making it his most accessible, but no less alluring, work to date. Suddenly faced with her boyfriend's infidelity, Elizabeth (Norah Jones) walks into the local cafe and leaves her boyfriend's apartment keys with owner Jeremy (Jude Law). She comes back regularly to check on the keys, but they remain on Jeremy's shelf, along with all the other unclaimed keys he's collected over the years. Amidst light conversation and blueberry pie, a bond begins to form between the two lovelorn souls, but the blossoming relationship is cut short when Elizabeth leaves New York for a road trip. Working odd jobs as she makes her way across the country, Elizabeth quietly watches and grows through various encounters, while Jeremy waits for her in New York.
