Screened in competition at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival, Sabu's Chasuke's Journey unfurls a wild film reference-laden fantasy romance that spans the mortal and celestial realms. Matsuyama Kenichi, who starred in the maverick director's 2011 film Bunny Drop , plays the eponymous hero, a heavenly tea servant who provides tea for the scribes in charge of scripting the lives of those on earth. Chasuke is particularly fond of a woman named Yuri (Ono Ito, For Love's Sake ), but she gets accidentally written off to a premature death. To prevent the tragedy from happening, Chasuke heads down to earth to save Yuri, encountering many side adventures and eccentric people with badly scripted lives along the way.
