The classic manga/anime Wicked City gets an intriguing new spin in the 1992 Hong Kong film adaptation written and produced by Tsui Hark. Directed by Peter Mak, the dark action fantasy transplants the conflicts between humans and shape-shifting demons to The Wicked City of pre-Handover Hong Kong. The all-star cast of Leon Lai, Jacky Cheung, Michelle Reis, Carman Lee, Roy Cheung, Japanese actor Nakadai Tatsuya and action legend Yuen Woo Ping play agents and rapters in this alternative dystopia where the human and demon worlds collide. Taki (Leon Lai) is part of the secret police force that hunts down rapters in Tokyo. With Hong Kong's Handover back to China drawing near, he gets transferred to Hong Kong headquarters to help fill the gap left by all the agents leaving the city. Under the orders of commander Kayama (Yuen Woo Ping), Taki and fellow agents Orchid (Carman Lee) and Ken Kai (Jacky Cheung) begin investigating tycoon Daishu (Nakadai Tatsuya) and his connection to an addictive rapter-origin drug called Happiness that is spreading in the human world. During the investigation, Taki learns that his rapter ex-girlfriend Windy (Michelle Reis) is now Daishu's mistress, and that there is a traitor in their police squad.
