MBC's 55th anniversary special drama The Flower in Prison (a.k.a. Flower of Prison ) depicts the life and times of a young woman who helps the poor and unfairly accused during the Joseon dynasty. Jin Se Yeon ( Doctor Stranger ) takes the lead role of the titular heroine, while Ko Su ( Empire of Gold ) portrays a mysterious businessman. Directed by Lee Byung Hoon ( Dong Yi ) and written by Choi Wan Kyu ( Triangle ), the historical epic was named Outstanding Korean Drama at the 11th Seoul International Drama Awards. Jin Se Yeon and Seo Ha Joon ( Marrying My Daughter Twice ) received the Excellence Awards at the 2016 MBC Drama Awards. Jung Joon Ho, who co-stars as a powerful politician, received the Golden Acting Award, and teen actress Jung Da Bin ( She Was Pretty ) won Best Young Actress. The cast of The Flower in Prison also includes Kim Mi Sook ( All about My Mom ), Park Joo Mi ( Blood ), Yoon Joo Hee ( D-Day ), Chun Kwang Ryul ( The Royal Gambler ), Choi Tae Joon ( All about My Mom ) and Jung Eun Pyo ( God's Gift: 14 Days ). Born and raised in prison, Ok Nyeo (Jin Se Yeon) acquired much of her knowledge from prisoners, including pickpocketing tricks and face reading. Since minors are not allowed to work in jail, Ok Nyeo is supposed to leave the prison, but she is allowed to stay by the prison's administrative officer Ji Cheon Deuk (Jung Eun Pyo) because of her fortune-telling talent. However, believing that she is Ji's daughter, some thieves kidnap Ok Nyeo to force him into releasing their leader.
