In a formerly quiet and peaceful village in Hunan, construction is about to begin for a highway that will pass through here. Because of this costly road, hordes of workers and all kinds of heavy machinery pour into the village. For the next three years, the migrant workers will have to call this unfamiliar place home. Along with their arrival, the locals must also face the possibility of dramatic changes, be it reclaimed fields or demolished houses. Directed by Zhang Zanbo, The Road documents these two different groups of people the road workers and the locals and how their lives and fates become intertwined with the same road.
