Rising actor Okada Masaki ( Tennen Kokekko, Halfway ) stars in the coming-of-age Hawaiian charmer Honokaa Boy . Directed by Sanada Atsushi ( All About My Dog ), Honokaa Boy is based on the novel by Leo Yoshida, who also appears in the film. As the title implies, the film takes place in the quiet, picturesque town of Honokaa, Hawaii, which is known for its high Japanese population. Acclaimed veteran actress Baisho Chieko, Japanese-American actress and model Hasegawa Jun, and Aoi Yu (in a brief appearance) play the three women who shape the protagonist's life-changing journey in Hawaii. Japanese college student Leo (Okada Masaki) and his girlfriend (Aoi Yu) head to Honokaa, Hawaii together in hopes of catching sight of a fabled rainbow, but the trip and their relationship fall apart over small arguments. Half a year later, Leo has taken a break from school and settled in Honokaa, working as a projectionist at a movie theater. In Honokaa, Leo meets many different people who impact his life in different ways, including a local girl (Hasegawa Jun) whom he falls for and a lonely elderly woman (Baisho Chieko) who cooks dinner for him everyday.
