Aired on RTV (later ATV) in 1981, the classic series Hong Kong Gentlemen revolves around the star-crossed love, crimes and infighting of a rich family in 1920s Hong Kong. Brothers Ho Ting Fong (Pao Han Lin) and Ting Yan (Cheung Ying) face off in a fierce fight over the family wealth. Daughter Lai (Ma Man Yee), however, falls in love at first sight with poor laborer Seoi (Lau Chi Wing) and they promise to meet at Victoria Peak. Seoi gets used by Ting Fong's son Lik (Lau Wai Man) for weapon trafficking, and ends up being wanted by the police. When Lai and Seoi meet again at Victoria Peak, danger and betrayal await them. Hong Kong Gentlemen is produced by RTV mainstay Lee Siu Hung ( Fatherland ) and David Lai, who would go on to direct films like Heaven and Earth and Timeless Romance .
