In the 1980s Jackie Chan starred in a handful of English-language Golden Harvest movies catered for the international market, among those were Battle Creek Brawl (1980), Cannonball Run (1981), and The Protector (1985). Written and directed by James Glickenhaus, The Protector cast Chan and American actor Danny Aiello ( Do the Right Thing ) as a pair of NYPD cops. They are sent to Hong Kong to catch a drug lord who has kidnapped the daughter of his former criminal associate, and, naturally, big fights ensue. Co-starring kung fu actress Moon Lee and Roy Chiao, the crime action thriller is quite unlike the usual action comedy fare Chan is famous for, but it does feature Hollywood-styled action scenes sprinkled with Chan's death-defying stunts.
