Following the Criminal Minds web series and Xie Dongshen's Evil Minds , Lei Mi's best-selling suspense novel series gets adapted into the crime action film The Liquidator . Based on the last volume of the series, the film casts Deng Chao ( Mermaid ) in the role of mystery-solving criminal profiler Fang Mu, while Ethan Ruan ( Monga ) plays the mysterious antagonist. Helmed by television director Xu Jizhou ( Rookie Agent Rouge ), The Liquidator also co-stars TV queen Cecilia Liu ( Brotherhood of Blades ) as a police detective, Guo Jingfei ( Beijing Love Story ), award-winning teen actress Vicky Chen ( Angels in White ) and Karena Lam in a special appearance. A killer going by the moniker of Light of the City commits a series of gruesome murders throughout the city. The victims are all people who have been covered in the media for their selfish actions, and their methods of death are related to their wrongdoings. The killings capture the imagination of the media and supporters, who hail the brazen criminal as a vigilante. Detective Mi Nan (Cecilia Liu) teams up with criminal psychologist Fang Mu (Deng Chao) to investigate the case, and they find that all the evidence is related to Fang Mu and his old classmate Jiang Ya (Ethan Ruan). The key to the mystery seems to lie with Jiang Ya's wife Wei Wei (Karena Lam).
