Andrew Lau unleashes a Kung Fu Monster in his 2018 wuxia fantasy that refreshes the martial arts comedy genre with new tricks. Louis Koo, Zhou Dongyu ( Soul Mate ), Cheney Chen ( Tiny Times ), Bea Hayden ( Tiny Times ), Bao Bei'er ( So Young ) and Alex Fong star in the special effects-laden film that is part martial arts lore, part parody comedy and part creature feature. In the Ming Dynasty during the reign of Emperor Wanli, a strange and powerful creature appears in the kingdom, and imperial guard Ocean (Louis Koo) is tasked to be the keeper of the beast. However, Ocean doesn't want the kind and innocent creature, which he names Lucky, to be used as a killing weapon. He chooses to free Lucky, much to the fury of power-hungry chief eunuch Crane (Alex Fong) who puts a bounty on the beast. Meanwhile, a motley group of outlaws join up by chance for a heist under the leadership of a mysterious beauty (Bea Hayden).
