Billed as the world's first 3D erotic film, Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy is arguably one of, if not the most anticipated Chinese film of the year, generating an unprecedented level of curiosity among adult film aficionados worldwide. The Category-III Hong Kong production is basically a remake of the 1991 big-screen adaptation of the classical Chinese erotica The Carnal Prayer Mat . Filmed with the latest 3D technology, the highly anticipated update from the original's producer Stephen Shiu seeks to deliver a sensual cinematic experience like never before, and its humongous success at the box office is expected to usher in a new wave of softcore entertainment at the multiplexes. Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy features a great deal of spicy sex scenes and titillating full-frontal nudity courtesy of Mainland seductress Lan Yan, sexy Hong Kong starlet Vonnie Lui, and Japanese adult video idols Hara Saori and Suo Yukiko. The juicy costume drama's hero and villain are played by Hayama Hiro ( Break Up Club ) and character actor Tony Ho, respectively, and through their sexual exploits the film serves up a campy, violent, and orgiastic adventure that ultimately affirms the value of true love. Set in Ming-dynasty China, the film follows young scholar Wei Yangsheng (Hayama Hiro) as he falls for beautiful maiden Tie Yuxiang (Lan Yan) at first sight. Much in love as they are, their married life isn't all that, and soon the sexually frustrated Wei is invited as a guest to Prince Ning's (Tony Ho) Pavilion of Extreme Ecstasy, where a whole harem of naked nymphs are kept to satisfy men's wildest fantasies. Wei begins to lose himself in lustful pursuits, and at the referral of the Elder of Bliss (Vonnie Lui), he even goes to the extreme of getting a donkey organ transplant to enhance his tiny manhood. There is an inconvenient side effect: the lecherous scholar becomes so indulged in carnal pleasure that he fails to see the deadly trap set up for him... This Blu-ray contains the Director's Cut (15 minutes longer than the theatrical version) in both 3D and 2D. It also comes with 23 minutes of special features (2D) including commentaries, trailers, and several making-of featurettes.
