A huge critical and commercial hit in China, the 2015 animated feature Monkey King: Hero is Back spins a new adventure based on the literary classic Journey to the West . Directed by Tian Xiaopeng, the film is set 500 years after the Monkey King raised havoc in heaven and got banished to his mountain prison. Young monk Jiang Liu'er runs into the Five Finger Mountains with a little girl he saved in order to escape mountain trolls and unwittingly releases the Monkey King. Free but greatly diminished in power, the Monkey King decides to escort Jiang and the little girl back to town, and then retire to a quiet life. On the road, Monkey King encounters Pigsy who joins their bickering party. At night, the three seek lodging at an inn, but the innkeeper turns out to be a demon lackey who abducts the girl. To rescue the girl, Monkey King and Pigsy must enter the lair of demon king Hundun. This edition includes the Cantonese dubbed version of the film voiced by Wayne Lai, Rosina Lam, Tyson Chak and Kevin Cheng.
