Operation Mekong (2016) Director Dante Lam brings the action in the crime thriller Operation Mekong starring Zhang Hanyu ( The Taking of Tiger Mountain ) and Eddie Peng, in his third collaboration with Lam after Unbeatable and To the Fore . Inspired by real events, the crime action blockbuster sends Chinese officers into the Golden Triangle, the notorious drug-producing region of Southeast Asia, for a thrilling barrage of special ops action and shootouts choreographed by Stephen Tung. In October 2011, the 13 crew members of two Chinese cargo ships were shot to death on the Mekong River, which runs through the Golden Triangle, and a large amount of drugs were recovered from the crime scene. The Jiaolong team must evacuate Chinese nationals to safety, but the streets have turned into an all-out war zone. Furthermore, the team must rescue a Chinese citizen who has been taken hostage by a heavily armed terrorist group that is after nuclear materials.
