The opening film of the 2016 Hong Kong International Film Festival, Chongqing Hot Pot combines Chongqing's traditional hot pot culture with heist comedy and action elements into an offbeat and unexpectedly violent crime caper. Director Yang Qing, whose 2009 debut One Night in Supermarket was about a convenience store holdup, ups the stakes to a bank robbery involving four friends played by Aloys Chen ( Mojin - The Lost Legend ), Qin Hao ( Blind Massage ), Bai Baihe ( Monster Hunt ) and Yu Entai ( My Own Swordsman ). Buddies Liu Bo (Aloys Chen), Xu Dong (Qin Hao) and Four Eyes (Yu Entai) opened a hot pot restaurant inside an old bomb shelter, but business is not going well at all. The guys decide to sell the restaurant, but first they have to (illegally) expand the shop space to inflate its value. While tunneling through the wall, they accidentally dig a hole right into the vault of a neighboring bank! They enlist the help of former classmate Xiao Wei (Bai Baihe), who works at the bank, to fix the hole, but Liu Bo, who is knee-deep in gambling debt, gets tempted by the piles of cash in front of him. Meanwhile, another group of armed robbers also targets the same bank.
