In 1972, Palestinian terrorists from the group Black Sunday broke into the Olympic Village in Munich and took 11 Israeli athletes hostage. They demanded the release of over 200 political prisoners in exchange for their lives. A bungled sting operation by the German authorities left all the hostages, and all but three of the terrorists dead. The captured perpetrators were freed soon afterwards. Mossad, the Israeli secret service, manned its own retaliation attack. Led by Avner (Bana), a group of four black book agents sought out the 11 men deemed responsible for the events in Munich and assassinated them one by one. What starts as a patriotic mission for the four men, quickly becomes an ordeal that threatens their consciences, their loyalties and their very humanity as they begin to question their orders and their actions and what justice and revenge truly means.
