Director Okita Shuichi ( The Mohican Comes Home ) imagines one day in the life of reclusive painter Kumagai Morikazu (1880-1977) in the charming, minimalist biographic drama Mori, the Artist's Habitat . Known for his colorful paintings of animals and plants, Morikazu stayed within the confines of his home for the last decades of his life. Veteran Yamazaki Tsutomu ( Departures ) essays the painter at age 94 through a simple yet wondrous day in which he discovers and observes the limitless wonders of nature in his small garden. His ambling day is equally mundane yet wondrous for the audience to watch and experience. In one of her final films, Kiki Kirin plays Morikazu's patient and supportive wife.
