Known for films like Always - Sunset in Third Street and Parasyte , director Yamazaki Takashi takes on another special effects challenge in the period drama The Great War of Archimedes . Based on Mita Norifusa's manga Archimedes no Taisen , the film stars popular actor Suda Masaki ( Wilderness ) as a mathematician in the Imperial Japanese Navy. Yamazaki previously recreated Japan's wartime era in the 2013 award-winning blockbuster Eternal Zero . The Great War of Archimedes is set in 1930s Japan and revolves around the Imperial Navy's plans to construct the Yamato, the world's largest and most powerful battleship. Admiral Yamamoto Isoroku (Tachi Hiroshi), who opposes the plan, brings young mathematics genius Kai Tadashi (Suda Masaki) into the Navy. Kai notices problems in the plans and tries to uncover a military conspiracy.
