Nick Cheung stars as a hypnosis expert who gets threatened to sway the verdict of a murder trial. The film is written and co-directed by Paul Sze, Kenneth Lai and Lau Wing Tai, who previously worked together on the short film God Bless All Parents . Popular mainland Chinese actor Hans Zhang ( Wolf Warrior 2 ) co-stars in Guilt by Design , along with Hong Kong actors Kent Cheng, Elaine Jin, Paul Chun, Eddie Cheng, Babyjohn Choi, Vincent Wong, Jo Koo and Cecilia So. Hypnotherapist and single father Hui (Nick Cheung) is selected as a juror for the trial of a sensational murder case involving a wealthy family. On the final day of the trial, as the jury prepares for deliberation, Hui receives a phone call informing him that his daughter has been taken hostage. The mysterious voice on the phone orders Hui to hypnotize the other jurors and deliver a guilty verdict. To do so, Hui must somehow secretly hypnotize at least four jurors in the deliberation room without using any tools or revealing his hand. Meanwhile, his brother-in-law (Hans Zhang), a former special forces officer, races to rescue his daughter.
