Director Benny Chan ( Gen-X Cops ) helms What a Hero! , an action comedy featuring the dynamite pairing of Hong Kong superstars Andy Lau and Maggie Cheung. Andy Lau is Wah, a renowned rural cop who's transferred from the sticks to the big city of Kowloon, and immediately discovers that he's no longer the top dog on the force. The top dog is actually the suave Yeung (Roy Cheung), who invites Wah to join his team of do-gooders. But Wah distrusts Yeung, and would rather stick with a bunch of enthusiastic though questionably efficient cops (two of whom are played by Nick Cheung and Anthony Wong). Wah's refusal to join Yeung's group leads to a widening rift between the two, and inevitable intersquad tensions. Plus there are bad guys, and a welcome romantic interlude with the beautiful and charming Maggie Cheung. Wacky comedy and over-the-top characters punctuate What a Hero! , an action comedy which surprises with illogical yet wildly creative action sequences that seem right at home in a Hong Kong movie!
