In director Kunimoto Masahiro's Fireworks from the Heart , fireworks mean more than just pretty symbols burning away in the sky. For the attendees of the Katakai Festival, each burst represents someone's memory, someone's hope, or even someone's love. Tanimura Mitsuki ( Box! ) star as Hana, a high school girl who returns home from a long hospital stay to find that her gentle older brother Taro (Kora Kengo, Norwegian Wood ) has become a hikikomori who shuts himself off from the world. To get Taro out of his room, Hana gets him to work and participate in the world-famous Katakai Festival, known for its spectacular fireworks. When Hana's leukemia returns, Taro finds the motivation to work even harder at the festival and set off the beautiful fireworks in his sister's name. Based on a 2006 documentary about post-earthquake Niigata, Fireworks from the Heart is a touching story about treasuring your family before it's too late.
