Inspired by Belgian painter Ren Magritte's absurd The Collective Invention which depicts a fish with a woman's legs stranded on a beach, Kwon Oh Kwang created his own Collective Invention for his directorial debut feature. Through this black comedy about an unemployed young man who turns into a mutant fish man after an experiment went wrong, the director expresses people's helplessness over various social issues such as the high unemployment rate, scientist Hwang Woo Suk's cloning fraud scandal and the MBC labor union strike. Screened at the 40th Toronto International Film Festival and 20th Busan International Film Festival, Collective Invention stars Park Bo Young, Lee Cheon Hee and Lee Kwang Soo who appears in a fish suit for the entire film. Freelance actor Park Gu (Lee Kwang Soo) barely makes a living playing bit roles in TV dramas. Attracted by the substantial pay, he participates in an experiment conducted by a pharmaceutical company. However, the experiment fails and his head turns into that of a fish! He manages to escape from the laboratory and meet up with his girlfriend Ju Jin (Park Bo Young), who sells him back to the pharmaceutical company. Wannabe reporter Sang Won (Lee Cheon Hee) hears about Park Gu's story from Ju Jin and the two sneak into the company to find him. When the truth is exposed, Park Gu turns into an overnight media sensation and the poster boy for every cause possible, but no one truly understands or helps him as his body continues to mutate. This edition comes with commentaries, making-of featurette, deleted scenes, character introduction and trailers.
