In 2004, a mountaineer embarked on a hazardous journey to recover the bodies of climbers who died on Mount Everest. Eleven years later, director Lee Seok Hoon ( The Pirates ) put the story on the silver screen. The adventure drama The Himalayas brings together the mountaineering team of Hwang Jung Min ( Ode to My Father ), Jung Woo ( C'est Si Bon ), Jo Sung Ha ( The Suspect ), Kim In Kwon ( The Divine Move ) and Ra Mi Ran ( The Tiger: An Old Hunter's Tale ), who picked up Best Supporting Actress at the 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards. Experienced mountaineer Um Hong Gil (Hwang Jung Min) is assembling a team to climb Mount Kanchenjunga, the world's third highest mountain. Eager to join, young climbers Park Moo Taek (Jung Woo) and Park Jung Bok (Kim In Kwon) beg Hong Gil to accept them as team members. Though they are rejected by Hong Gil at first, they soon prove themselves qualified after vigorous training and become essential members of the team over time. After a leg injury forces Hong Gil to finally hang up his boots, Moo Taek decides to lead another team into Mount Everest, but tragically, he and his fellow climbers get stranded on the mountain. To retrieve their bodies, Hong Gil comes out of retirement and leads an expedition team into the mountain's oxygen-deprived death zone.
