Taking the top prize at the 2021 Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, the hit Thailand-Korea co-production The Medium is directed by Thai horror-meister Banjong Pisanthanakun ( Pee Mak ), and produced and co-written by Korean filmmaker Na Hong Jin ( The Wailing ). Shot in a documentary style, the supernatural horror uncovers a terrifying tale of a Thai shaman family that has inherited a dark tradition. In northeastern Thailand, there is a small village where the villagers deeply believe that houses, forests, mountains and even rice fields have spirits. Inheriting her family's spirituality, Nim (Sawanee Utoomma, The Promise ) becomes a shaman for the goddess Ba Yan. One day, she notices that something is off about her niece Mink (Narilya Gulmongkolpech). At first, Nim thinks that her niece may have been chosen by the goddess. But as Mink's strange symptoms worsen, it becomes apparent that something far more sinister is happening. As a camera crew captures every moment, the family desperately try to save the possessed girl.
