Seven legendary Hong Kong filmmakers come together to tell Septet: The Story of Hong Kong ! Sammo Hung, Ann Hui, Patrick Tam, Yuen Wo Ping, Johnnie To, Ringo Lam and Tsui Hark each helm a short film set in a decade from the 1950s to the future. Together, the anthology pays homage to Hong Kong cinema and the Hong Kong story over time. Set in the 50s, Sammo Hung's Exercise draws from his own experiences in a performance troupe, and the relationship between master and apprentice. Starring Francis Ng and Sire Ma, Ann Hui's Headmaster depicts the work and dedication of a headmaster and teacher to their school in the 60s. Tender is the Night in Patrick Tam's 1980s story starring Jennifer Yu and Gouw Ian Iskandar, the former child actor of After This Our Exile , as young lovers facing impending separation due to emigration. Yuen Wo Ping directs and stars in Homecoming about an elderly man gradually bonding with his granddaughter as they live together briefly before 1997. Johnnie To's Bonanza is set during the SARs outbreak in 2003 when three everyday nobodies dream of getting rich quick. Written and directed by late director Ringo Lam, Astray stars Simon Yam as a man who returns his hometown of Hong Kong in 2018 for Chinese New Year, only to find everything is different than what he remembers. Set in the future, Tsui Hark's tongue-in-cheek Conversation in Depth sees Cheung Tat Ming, Emotion Cheung, Lam Suet and Lawrence Lau participating in an experiment as doctors and patients in a psychiatric hospital, but who's the doctor and who's the patient? First Press includes a 65-page Chinese-English booklet with photos and words from the directors, only available while supplies last.
