The film is directed by Lin Jing Jie, who also directed The Man Behind The Book from the first Inspired Island series. Wu Sheng grew up in a rural family in Changhua. Both his poems and his life are rooted in the countryside. Filming for He's Still Young began in 2017, following Wu Sheng's footsteps from rural Changhua and Zhuoshui River to Iowa, U.S., where the poet recalled participating in a writing class, and Vancouver, Canada, where he visited friend and writer Yan Xian.
