Yoshinaga Fumi's popular manga What Did You Eat Yesterday? about the daily lives and dinner table of a middle-aged gay couple was first adapted into a TV series in 2019. Aired on TV Tokyo, the foodie slice-of-life series star Nishijima Hidetoshi as meticulous and frugal lawyer Kakei Shiro who is good at cooking. Uchino Seiyo plays his cohabiting partner Yabuki Kenji, who is a hair stylist. Following the TV series and a 2020 one-episode TV special, Shiro and Kenji's story and cooking continue on the silver screen in the What Did You Eat Yesterday? feature film! TV series director Nakae Kazuhito and writer Adachi Naoko return to helm the movie. Besides leads Nishijima Hidetoshi and Uchino Seiyo, TV cast members Yamamoto Koji, Isomura Hayato, Tanaka Misako, Makita Sports and Kaji Meiko also reprise their roles, while Matsumura Hokuto joins the film as a new character. Shiro (Nishijima Hidetoshi) suggests a trip to Kyoto as a birthday present for Kenji (Uchino Seiyo). However, because of this trip, the two are not able to reveal their hearts to each other. Meanwhile, after finishing overtime one night, Shiro sees Kenji on a shopping street with a handsome young man (Matsumura Hokuto).
