One of the most enjoyable Sammo Hung vehicles from the eighties, Where's Officer Tuba pairs the great rotund one with superstar singer Jacky Cheung. The two play mismatched cops who team up to avenge the death of another cop played by Shaw Brothers legend David Chiang. Tuba (Sammo Hung) is a shy, somewhat cowardly cop who would rather play his tuba in the police brass band instead of busting criminal heads. Superintendent Chiang (David Chiang) hires Tuba for an undercover sting, but the plan goes awry, ending up in Chiang's death. As he's dying, he makes Tuba swear to take revenge. Then, when Tuba doesn't do anything, he returns as a ghost to haunt Tuba into taking action! Can Tuba's not-so-friendly guardian angel help him rout the bad guys, plus win the heart of the lovely Joey Wong? Where's Officer Tuba presents Sammo Hung in one of his most agreeable screen personas as a likable, shy buffoon who can win the heart of a pretty girl through sheer sincerity. Hung is no slouch when it comes to fighting scenes either, and he mixes it up with a variety of foes, including Hwang Jang Lee ( Iron Angels ) and Yuen Wah ( Kung Fu Hustle ), in some classic screen fighting encounters. Jacky Cheung impresses in one of his first roles, and he and Hung make a surprisingly able cop comedy duo. Where's Officer Tuba is usually not mentioned alongside other Sammo Hung films like Eastern Condors or Millionaire's Express as one of his classics, but it's a fun and rousing crowd-pleaser loaded with action, comedy, and eighties Hong Kong Cinema charm. First Press comes with a postcard, only available while supplies last.
