Adapted from the novel White Badge: A Novel of Korea , director Chung Ji Young's award-winning 1992 classic White Badge reveals the experiences and traumas of South Korean soldiers who fought in the Vietnam War. Following Nambugun: North Korean Partisan in South Korea , Ahn Sung Ki collaborated with the director again in the controversial war film which won him Best Actor at the 38th Asia Pacific Film Festival. Lee Kyung Young ( Whistle Blower ) was recognized as Best Actor at the 29th Baeksang Arts Awards, while Dokgo Young Jae ( Life and Death of the Hollywood Kid ) received the Best Supporting Actor prize at the 13th Blue Dragon Film Awards. White Badge is set in 1979 after the assassination of former president Park Chung Hee. Writer and discharged soldier Han Ki Ju (Ahn Sung Ki) suffers from trauma in the aftermath of the Vietnam War, which leads to divorce with his wife. He launches a monthly journal for a local newspaper to record his memories of the war. One day, he answers a call from his long-lost comrade Byun Jin Soo (Lee Kyung Young), who expresses his wish to take his own life.
