Winning the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at the 72nd Berlin Film Festival, The Novelist's Film is an absorbing and masterful study on creative crisis from Hong Sang Soo. Characteristic of the director's works, the B&W film lingers in moments, letting chance encounters and long conversations gradually reveal and resolve conundrums of the heart and mind. Collaborating with the director again following her award-winning performance in In Front of Your Face , Lee Hye Young plays the titular novelist alongside Kim Min Hee and other Hong Sang Soo regulars like Kwon Hae Hyo, Jo Yoon Hee and Seo Young Hwa. Jun Hee (Lee Hye Young), a famous novelist who hasn't written for a long time, goes to see an old friend (Seo Young Hwa) with whom she has lost touch. On her trip away from Seoul, she happens to cross paths with a director (Kwon Hae Hyo) with whom she has unhappy history, and then Gil Soo (Kim Min Hee), a famous actress who has stopped acting. Taking an interest in Gil Soo from the first meeting, Jun Hee makes an unexpected proposal: she wants to make a short film with Gil Soo as the main character.
