In 2016, Anno Hideaki and director Higuchi Shinji refreshed the Godzilla franchise with the blockbuster film Shin Godzilla . Five years later, they do the same for another beloved franchise with Shin Ultraman ! Written and produced by Anno Hideaki, this reimagining of the iconic Ultraman tokusatsu series stars Saito Takumi as the mysterious superhero from outer space who takes giant form to battle kaiju monsters. Nagasawa Masami, Nishijima Hidetoshi, Hey! Say! JUMP's Arioka Daiki, Hayami Akari, Tanaka Tetsushi and Yamamoto Koji co-star in this special effects spectacle with a satirical edge. In Japan, gigantic kaiju creatures keep appearing to the extent that they have become a part of everyday life. Conventional weapons are of little use against the kaiju, and the Japanese government is fast reaching its limits. A special S-Class Species Suppression Protocol task force is formed with leader Tamura Kamio (Nishijima Hidetoshi), executive strategy officer Kaminaga Shinji (Saito Takumi), physicist Taki Akihisa (Arioka Daiki) and biologist Funaberi Yumi (Hayami Akari).
