Written and directed by No Kyu Yeob, Unfinished is inspired by the memoirs of economist Oh Kil Nam who defected to North Korea in the 1980s, and then fought for decades to reunite with his family after escaping North Korea. Lee Bum Soo ( The Divine Move ) takes the leading role alongside a supporting cast that includes Yeon Woo Jin, Park Joo Mi, Lee Jong Hyuk, Park Hyuk Kwon and Jin Seon Kyu. In 1986, Korean economist Oh Young Min (Lee Bum Soo) is living in Berlin, but he feels that his work is unappreciated. Due to his past activism and leftist connections, he is unable to return to South Korea, and worries that he and his family may be at risk. When Young Min receives an invitation to be a professor in North Korea, he thinks that it may be the right choice to protect his family and advance his economic theories. Despite his wife's opposition, he goes to North Korea with his family. Once there, however, he realizes that he has made a grave mistake. Young Min later manages to make a dangerous escape in Denmark, but his family is still in North Korea. He strives to get help to bring his family back while being constantly monitored by the intelligence agencies of different countries.
