Following the 2015 exorcism horror Mother , director Chan Pan Chung and Kara Hui team up again for another chilling horror in Binding Souls . The film is produced by Edmond Poon, the host of a popular Hong Kong radio program about supernatural phenomenon. Binding Souls is set at an abandoned high school that once housed wartime Japanese death chambers. Tsao Yu Ning ( KANO ), Carlos Chan ( Happiness ), Anika Xia ( P Storm ) and singers Keeva Mak and Angie Shum play five unlucky young people who enter the school, while Kara Hui, action veteran Yuen Cheung Yan and Taiwan actress Esther Huang are school staff. Fung (Tsao Yu Ning) returns to his old high school with four college friends. As they tour the school, they learn about its grisly history during WWII. In the archives, they find an old journal recording past students' ghostly encounters in the school and the mysterious disappearance of a student.
